As the world starts to go into lockdown, and with uncertain times ahead, the main preventive measure to the Corona virus seems to be to wash your hands. With this constant hand washing, we are spending a lot of time looking at our sinks. Are you thinking that yours could do with an update? If so, you are in the right place! For this post I have gathered together some stunning statement sinks, if you are finding your current one lacking, then I hope you feel inspired.
A beautiful sink could be just what’s needed to give your bathroom or powder room that wow factor. Or if you are planning a complete remodel, then a colourful basin could be the jumping off point for your entire scheme.
We kick off with the beautiful Marrakesh Camber sink from Kohler. Shown here with the co-ordinating Moroccan Top Art console tabletop, it gives the impression of being a singular unit. Normally I would not advocate buying matching products but Kohler’s Marrakesh faucet also adds beautifully to the exotic vibe. Although I think chrome taps would also work well here. Stunning.
For a clean contemporary look try this square concrete basin from Kast. I love the matt look and the masculine/feminine contrast between the solid shape and the delicate colour. Perfectly paired with black fittings. When choosing a countertop sink remember to check the measurements to ensure it fits on top of your cabinet and isn’t too high.
This black and white striped marble sink is definitely a show-stopper. Its glitzy glamour has an Italian. The simple black faucet doesn’t compete with the loud basin, wall mounted fixtures would also work. The orchid and gold framed mirror up the glamour stakes but this sink would be equally stunning in a clean, contemporary black and white bathroom.
There are a few trends going on here with this eye-catching number. The mint coloured sink from Kast taps into the ribbed furniture trend whilst also giving us an Art Deco feel. Geometric tiles are infiltrating bathrooms all over Instagram and, as I’m sure you know, brass fittings have exploded over the last couple of years. The lights and the mirror add to the overall wow factor. One you’ll definitely want to show off.
Fabulous, modern maximalism from Kohler for West One Bathrooms. The Dutchmaster Midnight Floral sink is giving me all kinds of moody, dramatic vibes. Designed with Ashley Woodson Bailey, a former florist, the counter bowl has Hellebores, Fritillaries, Ranunculus and Sweet Pea flowers against an onyx backdrop, topped by a blue butterfly. Beautiful colours and design.
This is the Motif sink from Australian company Omvivo. The clean, contemporary basin has an etched glass base with a choice of three designs: Kaleidoscope (above), Forest or Pebble. The sink “floats” above the countertop, thanks to a spacer, which creates a reflection of the pattern on the countertop. Very creative, I particularly like the geometric feel of this one.
And here is the Marrakesh Camber sink from Kohler, again. At the Glenmere Mansion hotel, in the Hudson Valley, Scott Snyder teamed the Moroccan influenced basin with a marble vanity top. This creates a very different vibe from the look in the first image of this post. Which one do you like best?
Another elegant offering from Kast. I am really loving the functional, glamorous style of their concrete basins. A wall mounted style really puts the focus on the sink and fittings but think about whether you can do without the storage that a vanity unit provides.
Here is one for those that are washing their hands in the kitchen sink, and feeling that they could do with a new one. This is the Alveus Monarch Quadrix 50 Gold sink from Olif. In her own kitchen, Lucy Gleeson, has teamed it with a gold tap and hardware. This adds a warm vibe to the Karonia countertop and blue cupboards.
The perfect sink for a home bar area. The Brinx bar sink from Kohler is small with faceted walls and a mirrored rim. Light will bounce nicely off this gem adding some glamour and sparkle to your home.
This pink marble sink and backdrop paired with modern gold taps delivers a soft, glamorous energy. The onyx basin has a bit of a pearly glow. Simple luxury. Pink is such an Instagrammable colour and one that adds joy to a home. However, be aware that marble has a delicate side and you cannot use products containing acid, lemon or vinegar to clean it.
And lastly, West One Bathrooms’ Opale is a freestanding basin made out of Cristalmood. This is a coloured resin with a glossy finish. It is available in 10 different colours and will certainly make a statement in your bath or powder room. It’s translucent, decagonal, contemporary beauty will attract comment for sure.
I hope you enjoyed this roundup of statement sinks. If you’d like some more tips and inspiration for powder room design check out this post here. Keep washing your hands and stay healthy.
